Be connected.

Our honor code has a powerful, positive effect on the way we live, both here at school and out in the world. We show our commitment to the code each fall during a special chapel service where we add our signatures to the Honor Book and join the thousands of students before us who have pledged:

"On my honor, I will not lie, cheat, or steal. In addition, I will take responsibility for those in our community who do so."

But the honor code isn't just something we sign, it's a mindset. It's a way of life. It's our guide as we're faced throughout the day with situations that challenge us to decide between right and wrong. And when we leave here, we take it with us. Many an SMS alumna will tell you the spirit of our honor code has inspired her to live an ethical, honorable adult life.

You'll see the honor code in action when you visit campus. Notice the backpacks and belongings on the sidewalks. They're not going anywhere until their owner returns and trust us, she's not worried about someone taking her stuff. This is what it's like to live in a community that's committed to honor.
